iPhone X Specs

Unveiled alongside the iPhone 8 and its Plus variant, the iPhone X is a special device marking the 10th anniversary of the Apple flagship smartphone. You actually call it the iPhone Ten (iPhone 10). iPhone X offers a bit better specs than the other two, including facial recognition and a larger edge-to-edge OLED display.

Where to Buy iPhone X

Jumia Nigeria – See Offers | Jumia Kenya – See Offers | Jumia Ghana – See Offers

iPhone X Key Specs & Features

  • 5.8-inch Super AMOLED Display, 1125 x 2436 pixels (458 ppi)
  • Apple A11 Bionic Chipset with 2GB RAM
  • iOS 11
  • Water Resistant & Dustproof
  • 64GB, or 256GB Built-in Storage
  • Dual 12MP Rear Camera and 7MP Front Camera
  • 4G LTE (up to 1024 Mbps download)
  • Face Scanner (Face ID)

Design and Display

The almost bezel-free, glass design of the iPhone X is impressive. It is unlike anything we are used to in the range. You may be amazed to learn that it comes in a smaller body than the iPhone 8 Plus despite cramming in a larger 5.8 display. But the iPhone X loses the physical Home button that many people have gotten used to, along with its fingerprint scanner.
Talking about the display; this uses OLED technology. The iPhone X is the first iPhone to offer such. This promises awesome visuals with a resolution of 2,438 x 1,125 pixels. Almost 460 ppi pixel density indicates you can realistically expect jaw-dropping clarity.

Camera

The iPhone X offers you improved 12MP dual-lens camera on the rear – one wide-angle lens and one telephoto lens. Both come with optical image stabilisation (OIS) for a promise of superb shots. The sensors are faster and larger.
The 7MP TrueDepth selfie camera is probably the best you have seen. It offers a variety of features for selfies you will be eager to share. It also works for 3D tracking.

Hardware, Software and Other Features

Apple’s latest A11 bionic chip does the business on the iPhone X. This particular chipset is said to be more powerful than the ones you find in both the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. The hexa-core processor will run latest 3D games seamlessly. It also promises impressive augmented reality.
Also, latest iOS 11 operating system ships with the phone, bringing along several new features. In place of the iconic Touch ID comes Face ID that lets you unlock using your eyes. Apple says the battery will last two hours longer than the iPhone 7. The iPhone X supports fast charging and wireless charging.

Samsung Galaxy Note-7 Banned on all US Airline Flights

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) in conjunction with the FAA and the PHMSA has issued an emergency order to ban travelers from flying with the Galaxy Note 7 . The ban also extends to the phone being shipped as air cargo.

The ban means that passengers will not be able to fly with their Galaxy Note 7 by carrying it with them in their carry-on or checked baggage. The ban extends to all flights to, from, and within the United States and will be effective from October 15, 2016.
We recognize that banning these phones from airlines will inconvenience some passengers, but the safety of all those aboard an aircraft must take priority,” said Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx. “We are taking this additional step because even one fire incident inflight poses a high risk of severe personal injury and puts many lives at risk.
Samsung and CPSC have already announced a second formal recall of all Galaxy Note 7 units, including the replacement ones that Samsung gave to customers in late September. The Korean company has already issued a worldwide recall of the Note 7 and has stopped production of the device. To ensure that customers return their Note 7 units, Samsung is offering them a $25 credit, with customers who stick to the Samsung device getting a $100 credit.

Ways Mobile Phones Changed Nigeria

Since the telecommunication sector was deregulated in 2000 and so far, it has had an important effect in almost every facet of the lives of Nigerians. It has also affected heavily in other sectors of the economy.

Jumia Travel shares a few ways in which mobile phones changed Nigeria.

Improved Communications

As at 2000, Nigeria had no more than a few hundred telephone lines. There was a huge gulf between total population and access to telephones. Mobile phones changed that. Today, 8 out of 10 Nigerians own mobile phones of all kinds. The result has been a dramatic improvement in access to telecommunications. Almost every Nigerian has a mobile phone. Some have and use multiple phones.

Mobile Banking

Mobile phones changed how Nigerians send and receive money. You no longer need to visit the bank anymore to send money. Just clicking a few buttons on your phone, you can transfer money to your friends, family and loved ones within seconds.

Health

Mobile phones now help us avoid counterfeit drugs. With the war against counterfeit drugs intensifying in Nigeria, you can now send text messages on your phone to confirm if your drug is fake or not. So, you don’t need to worry anymore about the drugs you purchase.

Entertainment

Mobile phones have made it easier for users to access movies, misics, games without paying. This technology has simplified the distribution of songs, games and movies. As an artiste, you can upload your songs and videos on YouTube and interested Nigerians can listen and download. Also, there are music and video streaming sites where users can buy your content.

Employment

This is one of the most obvious impact mobile phones is having in Nigeria. There are prepaid card sellers all over the place and many Nigerians have been employed by mobile telecommunication companies and associated channels. Also, a new digital economy is blossoming in the country from the increased access to internet services.

Education

Not everyone owns personal computers but with their mobile phones they can access download online textbooks, and access e-libraries, as well as have access to research materials. Hence, you don’t necessarily need to have a PC anymore to educate yourself and embark on research.

Mobile phones changed Nigeria

Indeed, mobile phone changed Nigeria in many ways. The above are just a few mainstream ways in which it has. Do you have other areas that mobile phones have changed how you work and play and live in general? Share with us in the comment section below. Don’t forget to share this article with your friends and family!

The above areas listed are some of the sectors where mobile has helped Nigerians a lot.

Facebook Launched Workplace. Here's Everything Need To About It.

Facebook has officially launched its Slack competitor: Facebook Workplace.

This offer is part social network, part messenger, and part productivity tool for teams. Your Workplace account is only visible to people in your team/company and is separate from your personal account.

Here's everything you need to know about it, including when you can start using it and how much it costs.

    What is Facebook Workplace?

Workplace is a mobile and web app that aims to keep your team members connected. The service, which used to be called Facebook Work, offers features like Facebook Groups, Facebook Messenger, built-in audio and video calling, and access to the social network’s profiles, Events, and Live video tools.

Facebook's employees have been internally using a version of Workplace for years. Facebook has also let other companies test Workplace in beta form since at least 2015. Workplace already caters to big clients, including Starbucks, the 100,000-employee Royal Bank Of Scotland, and Booking.com.

    Search

Workplace lets you search for names or phrases, and then it serves up results all across your company. You can find co-workers profiles or phrases mentioned in posts. Aside from the universal search bar at the top, just like you'd see in the original Facebook, Workplace lets you search within groups and chats for specific things.

    Notifications

Again, just like the original Facebook, Workplace will notify you when you have new messages or replies on posts. You can get them delivered via email, the desktop site, and through the Workplace mobile app.

Where can you use Facebook Workplace?

You can sign in through the desktop website [YourCompanyName].facebook.com (ex: company.facebook.com) from your computer. You can also sign in through Workplace's free iPhone or Android app to access your account.

When will Facebook Workplace be available?

Workplace is now available to teams, companies, non-profits, and educational institutions of any size.

    What does Facebook Workplace feature?

Facebook said Workplace includes the best of Facebook, such as News Feed, the ability to create and share in Groups, features like Live, Reactions, Search, and Trending posts, and chat so you can communicate with colleagues in real time. There's even something called Multi-Company Groups, which allows employees from different organizations can work together.

Larger organisations will appreciate that Workplace includes a dashboard with analytics and integrations with single sign-on, in addition to identity providers that allow companies to integrate Workplace with their existing IT systems.

    How does Facebook Workplace work?

    Sign-in

If your company is using Workplace, you can set up your account by clicking the link in the email you've received.

To sign in, visit [YourCompanyName].facebook.com from your computer, or download the iPhone or Android app to access your account.

    Groups

Workplace lets you make groups, which can be open to any member of your team or just a few. In a group, you can make a new post to get a discussion started, or you can add a photo, video, or document to get input from the rest of the team. You can also respond and react to other members' posts in a group.

    News Feed

News Feed gathers conversations from all your groups, so you'll never miss an update or company announcement. Like the original Facebook News Feed, it's tailored to you so you'll see relevant and trending posts.

    Following

You can also follow co-workers to get their updates in your News Feed. On their profiles, you'll see information like who they are and how to get in touch, including sending a message with Workchat.

    Chat

Workchat in Workplace connects you instantly with any co-worker. You can do one-to-one conversations or loop in more people. Not only can you message, but you can also share files and make video calls with your team.

    Events

You can use Workplace to plan a company event (announce when and where it is happening, see who is coming, etc).

How much does Facebook Workplace cost?

New companies can get a free three-month trial period for signing up. After that, Facebook Workplace has a tiered pricing structure that costs $3 a month per user for companies with less than 1,000 active users (or $1 per month for companies with over 10,000 users). For non-profits and Educational Institutions, Workplace is completely free.

    Also, Facebook Workplace is advert-free.

How do you set up Facebook Workplace?

Top 5 Reasons Google Allo Is Still Better Than WhatsApp

The new instant messaging app Google Allo has amazing features like
Smart Reply, Incognito mode, Shout/Whisper, and Google Assistant AI bot. But it faces tough competition from the Facebook-owned veteran WhatsApp. Can Google Allo take the place of WhatsApp? Here are 5 reasons why Google Allo is better than WhatsApp.

Google Allo is a recently launched instant messaging app that could be thought of as a competitor to the champion WhatsApp. Why I’m saying this because it has some killer features which can put it ahead of other players. Allo will also avenge Hangouts and Gmail which are Google’s failed instant messaging attempts.

WhatsApp is the most popular instant messaging app with around 1 billion monthly active users. That’s why the newest entrant in the instant messaging space needs to defeat WhatsApp in order to become the king. So, here are five reasons Google Allo can replace WhatsApp:

    1. Google Assistant

The search giant’s biggest play is Google Assistant which announced at the Google I/O. Assistant is included in Google Allo as a preview version. Unlike WhatsApp, you can search people, places, food joints, etc. inside your instant messaging app.

WhatsApp’s daddy Facebook is working to enable alerts for various purposes like flight timings and bank notifications. This intention was revealed when WhatsApp announced that they will be sharing your contact number with Facebook.

The Assistant is directly aimed to compete with other virtual assistants like Siri and Cortana. But the Google Assistant has a lot to learn before it could challenge the biggies. Google has plans to put Google Assistant in place of Google Now in its Android OS.

    2. Send Free SMS

You can message your friends who have a WhatsaApp account. But what if you want to contact someone who doesn’t have the WhatsApp installed on their device. You won’t be able to send the message. But you can do so in Google Allo. Your contacts who don’t have the Allo app installed can receive texts as SMS. And it will cost nothing to you or the recipient.

    3. Smart Reply

The smart reply feature analyzes your conversations and then suggests reply texts accordi ngly. This com es handy when you don’t w ant to type m uch for instance while you’re driving. Although, I won’t recommend you to do that. The smart reply feature can also analyze images and make a reply suggestion about them.

Two of my fr iends had a chat by the smart reply suggestions only. The best part of the conversation was that the smart reply feature started giving text suggestions in English. And they ended up having a chat which made sense.

    4. Whisper/Shout, Emoticons, and fresh Stickers

Google Allo has got some amazing formatting features which you’ll love and one of them is Whisper/Shout. Press and hold the send button to change the size of the text and emoticons using the slider. The app also has some great emoticons and fresh sticker sets out of the box. On the other hand, WhatsApp also has some cool text formatting features which most people don’t know.

    4. Incognito Mode

News has been floating around that Google will not be sticking to their earlier decision of not keeping user conversation details on its servers permanently. Earlier, Google said it would be beneficial to users’ privacy if the data is stored temporarily. With Allo coming into existence, it seems Google doesn’t care about the aforementioned privacy drama.(www.wojuplus.com) Now, the company gives the reason that the conversation would be used to fuel their Smart Reply feature and make it more efficient and useful.

At least, Google Allo has the advantage of the “Incognito Mode”. Using incognito mode in Google Allo would disable Google from storing any of your messages on its servers, in fact, reading them at all. Also, the messages would disappear from the recipient’s device after the specified time limit.

    Allo Vs Whatsapp

Google made Allo from scratch, not as a successor to the Hangouts. The messaging app has received appraisals for including the AI chatbot and the smart reply features. But it has also faced backlashes from whistleblowers like Edward Snowden who has been tweeting about the security concerns Allo can pose in front of the users. But some Twitteratis are asking Snowden why a normal user should care about data being stored in data centers.

It’s good that the Google Allo has some amazing features. But WhatsApp is more mature and has an experience of six years. Allo will have to prove itself to a large number of WhatsApp users who put up the question, Why should I leave WhatsApp?
