The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) in conjunction with the FAA and the PHMSA has issued an emergency order to ban travelers from flying with the Galaxy Note 7 . The ban also extends to the phone being shipped as air cargo.
The ban means that passengers will not be able to fly with their Galaxy Note 7 by carrying it with them in their carry-on or checked baggage. The ban extends to all flights to, from, and within the United States and will be effective from October 15, 2016.
“We recognize that banning these phones from airlines will inconvenience some passengers, but the safety of all those aboard an aircraft must take priority,” said Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx. “We are taking this additional step because even one fire incident inflight poses a high risk of severe personal injury and puts many lives at risk.”Samsung and CPSC have already announced a second formal recall of all Galaxy Note 7 units, including the replacement ones that Samsung gave to customers in late September. The Korean company has already issued a worldwide recall of the Note 7 and has stopped production of the device. To ensure that customers return their Note 7 units, Samsung is offering them a $25 credit, with customers who stick to the Samsung device getting a $100 credit.
